A unique book on a unique place in the middle of the Calanques of Marseille, one of the jewels of the Marseille city.

Preface by Jean-Claude GAUDIN Mayor of Marseille, Vice President of the Senate

Why “Immersion in Sormiou”?

The love of an exceptional place close to Marseille. The meeting of two enthusiasts, by their calanque, nature, the sea, photography and writing. The desire to bear witness, to share, to protect. Also the duty of memory. For all these reasons, the authors have been intensely involved. Not only for the so-called magical landscapes but also for the people who inhabit Sormiou, who bring it to life and give it a soul without which this calanque, which leaves no one indifferent, would only be a simple postcard. Images show, writings explain and the heart unites. In any case, it's a great adventure around a site that the past has left its mark on and where we still hear very beautiful and friendly stories...
So, this book on Sormiou, quite simply because Sormiou exists and will always exist.
In the hearts of men.

The authors, Henri Eskenazi, a great specialist in underwater photography and Cédric Tassan, photographer and creator of Éditions VTOPO, wanted to retrace their vision of this fabulous place seen from the inside, as a cabanonnier. Integrated into the future National Park project, the Calanques have some remarkable and well-known landmarks, Sormiou figures in first place (idyllic setting, numerous films and TV films shot, flooded cave paintings, popular holiday resort...).
